Breaking a bad habit

Breaking a bad habit

Trying to get rid of a bad habit?

Stopping a bad habit is SUPER hard! You can't just will yourself to do it.

I'm still struggling with this, but I had few successes using the processes below.

How I break bad habits

1. Want to change the behavior.

2. Awareness period.

In which I notice when I'm doing the behavior.

No judging. No self anger. No calling myself names!

Just saying "You're doing X"

3. Curiosity and research.

When am I doing it? What are my triggers? What methods do other ppl use to overcome this? Who are the experts on this? What do they suggest? Has some overlap with awareness phase.

4. Create a specific action plan

Creating a specific action plan using either BJ Fogg or James Clear methods for habit design.

5. Stick with it

You won't get it right on the first try. Don't get me wrong, I hope you will, but don't count on it.

Tweak the plan, keep trying. Know that if you stick with it eventually you'll crack it.

Hope it'll help you!

My current challenge

Over-eating during weekend family dinners, to a point I feel bad.
The food is so good, I can't stop eating, but later I feel physically bad.
Currently in Awareness phase.
